Role Proficiency

As a VM Engineer, you will independently develop high-quality, error-free code and support secure application development practices. You will collaborate closely with Lead Engineers, mentor junior developers, and play a critical role in vulnerability management, DevSecOps, and secure CI/CD pipelines.


Key Responsibilities & Outcomes

Design & Development

  • Understand application, feature, and component designs and provide technical inputs
  • Develop, debug, test, document, and communicate application components
  • Select appropriate technical solutions by reusing, enhancing, or reconfiguring existing components
  • Improve application design by identifying recurring problem patterns

Security & Vulnerability Management

  • Discover and analyze vulnerabilities in Linux environments using tools such as:
    • Rapid7 InsightVM
    • CrowdStrike
    • Nessus / Nexus
  • Collaborate with security, DevOps, and system teams to implement remediation strategies
  • Perform security assessments and monitor remediation progress
  • Understand CVSS scoring, vendor advisories, and risk prioritization

Process Optimization & Automation

  • Identify opportunities for automation and process improvements
  • Optimize efficiency, cost, and quality using Agile delivery models
  • Assist in CI/CD pipeline improvements using:
    • GitLab CI
    • Jenkins
    • Ansible

Leadership & Mentoring

  • Mentor Developer I and Developer II engineers
  • Assist Lead I – Software Engineering in:
    • Technical design
    • Code reviews
    • Architecture discussions
  • Set FAST goals and provide constructive feedback to mentees

Performance Measures

  • Adherence to engineering standards and coding guidelines
  • Compliance with schedules, timelines, and SLAs
  • Reduction in post-delivery defects and non-compliance issues
  • Faster turnaround of production issues
  • Number of reusable components developed
  • Completion of technical/domain certifications
  • Completion of mandatory training programs

Expected Deliverables

Code & Configuration

  • Independently develop and maintain secure, scalable code
  • Implement and monitor configuration processes

Testing

  • Create, review, and execute unit test cases and scenarios

Project & Defect Management

  • Manage module-level activities
  • Perform defect root cause analysis (RCA) and mitigation
  • Estimate effort, timelines, and resource dependencies

Documentation & Knowledge Sharing

  • Create and review technical documentation
  • Contribute to project repositories, SharePoint libraries, and knowledge bases

Release & Reporting

  • Execute release processes
  • Provide accurate status reports aligned with project standards

Required Skills & Experience

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in Vulnerability Management / DevSecOps
  • Strong Linux administration and shell scripting skills
  • Experience with CI/CD tools:
    • GitLab CI
    • Jenkins
    • Ansible
  • Knowledge of monitoring and tracking tools:
    • Grafana
    • Splunk
    • Jira
  • Understanding of Git and version control workflows
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams

Technical Knowledge

  • Operating Systems (Linux)
  • Programming & scripting languages
  • CI/CD and DevOps practices
  • Vulnerability management frameworks and best practices
  • Agile methodologies
  • Software design and technical documentation
