Job Overview
Oracle is hiring a highly skilled Principal Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) with deep expertise in IBM Z Systems, z/OS, z/VM, AIX, and DB2. This role is ideal for engineers who excel in complex mainframe environments and enjoy working in dynamic, cross-functional engineering teams. You will be responsible for system enhancements, performance tuning, support for development/test workloads, and automation across multiple IBM Z servers.
This position offers the opportunity to contribute to mission-critical engineering work while collaborating closely with global teams.
Key Responsibilities
IBM Z Systems
- Administer IBM Z Hardware Management Console (HMC).
- Configure & maintain I/O subsystem definitions (IOCDS).
- Manage network interfaces linking IBM Z systems to Oracle environments.
- Administer DS8000 storage systems through HMC.
z/OS Platform
- Install, configure & maintain z/OS using SMP/E & z/OSMF.
- Design Sysplex environments (LPAR & z/VM).
- Administer RACF, DFSMS, VTAM, Comm Server, and USS.
- Manage enterprise storage and network communication.
z/OS Software Stack
- Install, upgrade & maintain DB2, CICS TS, IMS using SMP/E.
z/VM (Linux & z/OS Guests)
- Configure and maintain z/VM systems & multiple SSI clusters.
- Manage DIRMAINT, shared disks, performance monitoring & optimization.
- Provide support for z/OS guests under z/VM.
- Create automation scripts with REXX and CMS PIPES.
Linux on IBM Z
- Deploy and manage SLES & RHEL hosts under z/VM.
- Configure virtualized disk & network interfaces.
Cross-Functional Technical Role
- Partner with development teams to improve architecture.
- Act as escalation point for undocumented or critical issues.
- Perform deep-dive troubleshooting, RCA, and capacity planning.
- Build mission-critical automation for scalability, security & performance.
- Document procedures, SOPs, and technical workflows.
Required Skills & Knowledge
- 6–10 years of hands-on experience with IBM Z Systems, z/OS, z/VM.
- Strong OS performance tuning & debugging skills.
- Expertise in developing automation tools, utilities & scripts (REXX preferred).
- Experience with scalable, fault-tolerant distributed systems.
- Ability to work with global teams across time zones.
- Strong analytical, verbal & written communication skills.
