Northeast Grocery Inc., the parent company of Market 32, Price Chopper, and Tops Markets, has expanded its long-running partnership with DXC Technology to advance its digital modernization efforts. The initiative has helped the retailer streamline operations, consolidate IT systems, and generate more than $40 million in savings over five years.
DXC has supported Tops since 2008 and guided the company through major milestones, including the 2021 merger involving Market 32, Price Chopper, and Tops. As the organization unified its operations, Northeast Grocery focused on creating efficiency by consolidating its IT infrastructure. DXC played a central role in simplifying systems, improving productivity, and accelerating the roadmap for modernization, including new generative AI capabilities.
“We needed to drive synergies and improve productivity as we brought our mainframe systems together,” said Scott Kessler, EVP and CIO of Northeast Grocery. “DXC helped us maintain strong customer service during the transition and prepared us for the next phase of innovation.”
DXC’s modernization support includes upgrading the company’s mainframe to a zLinux environment, which boosts compute capacity and improves performance. This allows Northeast Grocery to shift more attention to growth, customer experience, and innovation across its banners. DXC also provides software engineering support, managed IT operations, device management, and workplace collaboration services.
“At DXC, we focus on helping organizations get the most from their technology investments,” said Chris Drumgoole, President of Global Infrastructure Services at DXC. “Our work with Northeast Grocery has delivered tangible operational improvements and cost benefits, giving them room to reinvest in stores and future technologies. We look forward to deepening this collaboration with AI and other digital initiatives.”
Headquartered in Schenectady, New York, Northeast Grocery ranks No. 46 on Progressive Grocer’s PG 100 list for 2025. Its Market 32, Price Chopper, and Tops Markets brands together operate nearly 300 stores across six northeastern states and employ more than 30,000 people.
