🧠 Job Overview
SAP is hiring an experienced Principal Software Architect to lead the design and development of backup-as-a-service features for more than 8,000 enterprise customers. This role plays a critical part in building scalable, cloud-native backup and restore solutions using hyperscaler technologies across major public cloud platforms.
🔧 Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end software development with focus on quality, scalability, and performance
- Design and review low-level and high-level architectures
- Drive cloud-native backup and restore solutions
- Conduct and lead technical Proof of Concepts (PoCs)
- Mentor engineers and promote technical excellence
- Ensure operational excellence (observability, reliability, scalability)
- Collaborate with multiple stakeholders and engineering teams
- Apply DevOps best practices across build, test, deploy, and monitor phases
- Own complex technical challenges and deliver production-ready features
🎯 Required Skills & Qualifications
- 13–19 years of experience in software development
- Strong expertise in Python (or willingness to adopt Python)
- Excellent knowledge of OOP, data structures, and algorithms
- Experience with API-first architecture
- Strong understanding of cloud-native development
- Experience with unit testing, automation, and CI/CD
- Knowledge of TCP/IP, HTTP, authentication & authorization
- Proven experience delivering GA (General Availability) products
- Hands-on exposure to Linux systems
- Strong communication and leadership skills
⭐ Nice to Have Skills
- Knowledge of storage systems & filesystems
- Experience with SAP HANA, Sybase ASE, MSSQL
- Understanding of application and cloud security
- Familiarity with hyperscaler platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
